Statement
I am not someone to make a statement,
I do not stand out,
But certainly not fit in,
Last year,
Last year I was a statement,
Or at least,
My hair was,
Last year,
For the holidays we went to Africa,
Beautifull Africa,
Botswana and South Africa to be exact,
We were in Botswana for a wedding,
My uncle's wedding,
It was beautifull,
And amazing,
But to look like my African family,
My new family,
I changed my hairstyle,
Into ther hairstyle,
Ther kind of hair,
So,
So I got braids,
My hair got plait,
And without considering my skin,
I was one of them,
But after the wedding,
We went to South Africa,
Ther I was statement,
Me,
ÇCause no matter,
No matter what people say,
The apartheid is not over,
Cause I wore black peoples hair and I am white,
I was a real statement,
I impressed the black people,
I got nice comments from them,
But the white people,
The conceited white people,
They looked at me,
Looked at me like I,
Like I was mentally disturbed,
Like I was white trash,
'Like ther so perfect,
And I am so crazy',
Well,
Well I wasn’t,
I was me,
Me who really wanted to show them,
Me who wanted to shout;
“I am not stupid,
You are,
All of you,
You think you are so perfect,
So perfect that you just can torment others,
That you can just judge them,
Just prejudence them,
Well you can not,
You far from perfect,
They are thouzend times more perfect then you are,
So treat them like your equal,
They deserve it,
But,
But I can not judge if you do”,
But I didn’t say it out loud,
It was my statement,
My hair,
The statement was in my hair,
Most people got,
You could see it in ther eyes,
Black our white,
They all stopped and looked at me,
At my hair,
My hair was a statement,
Just,
Just because the apartheid isn’t over,
I saw it,
I felt it,
I realized it,
And I will fight it...
Forever...

More a story,
But a story worth sharing.

| Leuk...i was in africa last summer aswell in south arica in namibie in botswana en zambia..and i think you are absolutly right i will stand aside you in your battle against apartheid...it shouldn't be just your battle it should be everybody's battle...this is a nice way of passing along a message good luck zowi |

| Wouw, I loved it! Goed van je, om ertegen te vechten. apartheid is niet goed en ook hier in europa merk je dat blanken zich vaak nog steeds superieur opstellen ten opzichte van gekleurden. Ik vind het goed dat je ertegen vecht. Maakt niet uit of je dat met woorden of met je haar doet, t is al goed dat je t doet. Ik vond het een heel mooi gedicht! Dikke kus Little one |
