In a cold and rainy city
Wondering through the darkest night
Is a lonely man with a lonely life
Hoping for someone to take pity
And offer him a bed for tonight
Where can he turn for shelter
If no one seems to care
If everyone that sees him
Pretends that he’s not there
He wants to have a normal life
In his dreams it’s all so clear
but the voices in his head
Don’t want to disappear
And all he can think of
Is pushing that needle
To kill all the love
And to end all his feelings
He’s hoping for a bit of luck
He’s praying that this time
The cold will make sure
That he never wakes up
All the people that see him
Don’t look him in the face
They don’t want to be reminded
That through a simple twist of fate
They could be standing in his place
so he wonders through the streets
and knocks on the occasional door
While trying to remember
The ones that didn’t open before
He had a wife and kid before
He used to see life very clear
But the voices in his head
Just started to appear
And all he can think of
Is his heart is breaking
When he remembers the love
He used to have in his life
Until he ran out of luck
But his wife kept on trying
Till his voices made sure
That she finally gave up
First he started taking pills
And then he’d take some more
He’d wash them down with alcohol
And for longer than a little while
Life seemed better than ever before
In the end he lost his job
And when reality hit
His wife had finally left him
And taken his money and kid
She didn’t feel safe or secure
She’s told him all so clear
Since the voices in his head
Just started to appear
And all he can think of
Is numbing his feelings
To forget about love
And getting on with this life
And maybe with a bit of luck
His prayers will be answered
And life will make sure
That he’ll never give up
He’s long forgotten his son’s name
And doesn’t remember his age
Sometimes he knows when he last saw his face
ever since then everyday looks the same
the pain from it all fills him with rage
He’s tried to look for help
But all to no avail
Cause everywhere he turned
They just turned him away
And so he spends his days
It’s everything but clear
But the voices in his head
Don’t want to disappear
And all he can think of
Is getting some money
To buy him some love
And a bed for tonight
And with a little bit of luck
When he wakes in the morning
He will finally find
That his voices gave up
