What is there else to do
Than to break your heart
A heart that binds a soul
Inclined to die
In its unkind decent
so that it for a time
may stand, unchecked, and kill
nostalgia’s threads, that
persevering in rage
attempt to unbind the soul
from death?
Alas, it may not be
No healing will occur
Through these eyes that look
to me, and wish
with fervent love to hate
the one who in a night
a cold night it may seem
without a star, released
the bonds of nature’s bleak
and ever erring mind
I love thee, I confess
And in mourning I do pray
That all shades be recalled
By light, a darling ray
And this unkind heart
No more brings grief to thee
Enslaves no more the weaklings
it bore the earth this day
of darkness I may speak
but in stillness I still pray
Release me from these bonds
Release me from decay
A union ends united
To stand once more one day
The sun has slowly faded
Diminished is this test
I enter into silence
I sleep in mortal rest.
