Christmas has come, as many have before
dinners remembered with small and adult children
songs that were sung of birth in Bethlehem
in stable cold and in the midst of winter
summer it was when I celebrated
with all my children, grand and great
in garden filled with sun and flowers
filled with love from and for all I care
the birthday of one strong, I reached eighty
and still quite sane if sane I ever was
so much in life for which I am grateful
beloved people who have stood me by
in times of gladness and in times of sorrow
I thank them from the bottom of my heart.
Christmas alone but with my memories of warmth
Californian hospitality and overwhelming kindness
broad-minded humans, royalty amongst people
beaches and ocean, unguent on my soul
Christmas has come with message of good tidings
light will return after days of winter’s depth
let us rejoice and celebrate the coming
of spring and colours and returning life.
