Fooled by the seasons
Spring is obviously
in the air….
The birds shout it
in my ears as does
that loud neighbor’s girl
Yet I still
cannot shake off
those leaves of autumn
that have been weighing
on my shoulders
like mammoth’s dandruff
all winter long
hence the stains
on my shirt
Can a warm breeze
please soon
blow them away from me
and make place
for summer?
Or will it
once more pass
in the shadow
of those same trees
that are soon to carry
their new green burden
so cunningly disguised
as the source
of all life?
