Vergaar, vergaar! De zwerver vertelt
Hoe Zeus, almachtig, menig sterveling velt
Ene Bartholomeus, stoutmoedig nota bene
Was een visserszoon
Afstammend van moederkloek Athene
't Kletterde, spetterde, en rommelde 's nachts
Goddelijke driftbuien op 't onverwachts
"De hemel stort naar beneden" predicten wijzen
Terwijl Grieken verzopen in hemels afgrijzen
En het moment dat Bartholomeus sprak
Vanop zijn woonst, een verlaten schipwrak
Wezen planeten op komend gevaar
"De apocalypse wenkt" kermden toeschouwers aldaar
Maar de visserszoon vermaande: "Ik duld geen gemaar!"
Balancerend op de boeg, ooit een verschrikking der zee
Kraakten rotte planken onder zijn voeten
"Ja, zelfs Zeus wordt gedwee!"
Menig dorpeling kraste en sprak vol venijn
"Gij dwaas, simpele ziel, De Oppergod krijg je niet klein!"
Maar Bartholomeus, stoïcijns, gaf zich niet gewonnen
En wees naar boven, waar helse regenval was begonnen
Voor Zeus' munitie, bliksem en schichten
Zou geen enkele Griek meer hoeven te zwichten
De massa verdween en weigerde trouw
Wanneer Bartholomeus demonstreerde, 't sterkste stuk touw
"In zes etmalen zal dit gerei transformeren
Tot een Goddelijk net, die bliksem kan bezweren"
Zo geschiedde, zes zonnen en zes manen later
Dreigde Athene ten onder gaan
Door een omhelzing van water
Geen teken van Bartholomeus besloten enkele mannen
Die ervan overtuigd waren, naar de Styx was hij verbannen
De zesde maan ging onder, hoewel onweer niet verdween
In tegenstelling tot een held, die aan de horizon verscheen
Hij hees een net, van 't allerbest materiaal
De zwerver hield zijn mond. Einde verhaal?
De luisteraars fronsten en bewonderden
En bleven op hun honger, een epos verslonden
"Geen truken met ons, een vervolg is er zeker!"
De zwerver reutelde en zijn gezicht werd steeds bleker
"Zozo, zozo. Ik geef gehoor aan jullie wens
Maar wees voorbereid op de dwaasheid van de mens."
Hij vervolgde en wist wederom het publiek te verleiden
Over Bartholomeus, die zou stoppen het einde der tijden
Het net was voltooid, aaneengehecht met ringen
Dit wapen zou Zeus' bliksem weldra bedwingen
Hij verfoeide de profeten, mannen met baarden
Wetenschappers die hem nu al doodverklaarden
Zonder om te kijken verliet hij zijn thuis
En zwoer te bedwingen, vervloekte hemelsluis
De tocht naar Olympus was zwaar, infernaal
Al slapend met nimfen, al plooiend het staal
't Moment was daar, eindelijk gekomen
Op het hoogste punt zou hij De Bouwmeester dwarsbomen
De hemel aanrakend, flirtend met dood
Nam Bartholomeus zijn net en gebood
"Zeus, gij zult weldra de hemel verlichten
Bevrijd van chaos en bliksemschichten."
De Almachtige brieste en bleef persistent
Terwijl hij zich wapende met krachtig natuurelement
Hij hief zijn hand, statig en fier
Bartholomeus bleef moedig en vertrok geen spier
De nacht verlichtte gepaard met een knal
Om daarna opnieuw te zijn datzelfde zwarte gal
Luttele seconden na dit dramatisch gebeuren
Was op de top van Olympus
Slechts een net te bespeuren
Aldus, sprak de zwerver, tot zijn grote smart
over het einde van Bartholomeus
Een neergebliksemde dwaas
Met een hart.
