Into the field we strode
Where sun and water mingled
Into the wild we rode
And in the wild, we lingered
Lovely was the water
And caring the sun’s caress
Here there was no slaughter
Equals, no one was less
No shell shock, no death
And in these sweet summer rays
We inhaled a brief breath
That remembered us of better days
Alas, that this day must pass
And that those days remain
So much horror in the gray mass
Of a traumatised brain
Far is the field
Where those memories began
I’ve fought but now I yield
The loss of innocence in man
Into that field we strode
Where sun and blood mingled
Into the wild we rode
And in the wild lingered
There was no water
The sun stung our eyes
There was only slaughter
And a firm believe in lies
This was a war, a fight
Innocence was deeply cleft
It didn’t determine who was right
Only who remained left
Into that field I strode
Where sun and madness mingled
Innocent I went in and rode
Maybe, is it there where innocence lingered
