I was feeling sad
I felt almost morose
It seems that the bad
Outweighed the good and it wasn’t even close
Outside the world was a white wonder
Cold beautiful and silent
It was oblivious of my mind’s ponder
And its beauty seemed almost defiant
For one who believes in freedom no matter the cost
For one who holds rights in high regard
It is astonishing to see what we have lost
To what end did our hearts get so scarred
It seems silly and absurd
As around me, I see the great divide
And I long for the wings of a bird
To cross the chasm of lies, grief, and pride
To see loved ones, to cry, and to laugh
To feel their warmth and healing
To know that the ones who will act on my best behalf
To those who have raised my ceiling
To you, I turn
In you, I confide
With you, I will learn
There’s always a turning of the tide
In you, I believe
In you, I see so much good
In you, there’s hope now that I grieve
In you, even the silence is understood
We have to be greater
Then that which we suffer
So when we’re at the bottom of this crater
We’ll just climb out and be all the more, tougher
Strength in friendship lies
In kindness and rising above
One day we’ll live under better skies
If we believe in our hearts and in our love
